Sidenotes for FFII:
Background: In the world of Final Fantasy II, a long-lasting peace was violently broken by the Emperor of Palamecia, who summoned demonic creatures from the underworld and struck against the world’s nations. A rebel army from the Kingdom of Fynn stood against the empire but was destroyed at Castle Fynn. In this vicious battle, a young man by the name of Firion lost his family and was soon entangled by the war that raged throughout the land. As Firion’s family was lost to this war, he’s very committed to the rebel army and to fighting back against the Emperor.
Firion uses a variety of weapons in combat, making him quite the versatile fighter. Excelling in mid-range battle, Firion uses swords, lances, bows, knives and staves all to great effect. In the world of Dissidia, Firion should please any gamer who loves using traditional weapons — and using them in style.
They also make mention of the things they expected to see at the show but didn’t, like more Half-Life episodic content.
On another Subject on E3/G4TV.com!
G4 has been up inside the guts of E3 2009 since the thing started on Monday, and has been barraging you with such a fat load of content, I’m afraid you might have missed something awesome. But don’t worry. I have your back.
Below you will find a look at some of the most massive, breakout, original, stunning and awesome-tastic looks at the biggest happenings at E3 2009, the biggest show on earth. Enjoy:
As we all know the Kingdom Hearts series, we’ve been waiting a very, very long time for this game. And E3 reviewed it finally!
Now E3 wouldn’t allow some games to be shown at the conferences, but only behind closed doors.
Some people got to get behind them and ask questions. Most of the good games were blocked behind the doors, only to be seen and not shared.
Among those games are: Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Mario Bros WII, Metroid WII, Zelda WII, Dissidia and Final Fantasy XIV.
I will be bringing that information within the days and year, when it is released, of course.
G4TV » I’m a Kingdom Hearts mark. I fully admit it. The magical blend of Disney and Square Enix (particularly Tetsuya Nomura’s art) totally works for me, no matter what platform it’s on. With that in mind, you can understand why I was totally happy to play Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for Nintendo DS. Telling the tale of Roxas — the “nobody” that was created when Sora became a heartless — this game will appeal to KH fans that enjoy the series’ simple gameplay, numerous cameos, and complex story. For my preview, I was able to spend some time with the game, running on aDSi.
The first single-player level I played was set in Twilight Town. The level started off with Roxas and Axel (a member of Organization XIII) chatting. I got to control Roxas, with Axel providing support. The object was to get through a maze-like building and defeat a guardian (generic boss character). Navigating through levels in 358/2 Days is pretty easy, as a nifty corner map guides your way. As expected, numerous baddies pop up as you’re making your way to your goal. This required the typical KH technique of bashing the hell out of everything in sight and sidestepping anything that might harm you (it’s an advanced technique). I imagine this was one of the early levels, as it was a snap.
After the level ended, Axel shared some salt ice cream (which totally sounds gross) with Roxas, as they chatted about the latter’s spotty memory. From what I understand, the two spend a lot of time on top of a clock in Twilight Town after a long day of killing heartless. As the dialogue scrolled through theDSi , I could see the bond forming between the two characters. While all the Disney cameos in the game are awesome, I really enjoy the Kingdom Hearts mythos that Square Enix has built up over the years. I fully expect to enjoy this plot, fills in a lot of gaps between KH1 and KH2.
Getting back to my gameplay time, my next stop was a trip to Agrabah. Jasmine and Aladdin were having another lovers’ quarrel about leaving the toilet seat up. Okay, that’s not true; the real deal was that sandstorms were plaguing the city and Aladdin must find a way to stop them. The action kicked off withRoxas , who was solo this time. The goal of this level was to kill all the fire plants. This level was more difficult and complex than the Twilight Town level I played; the monsters were tougher and the level design was more interesting, with its use ofverticality . However, it was still easy to conquer through that magical combination of beating the crap out of everything and not being stupid enough to get hit by obvious attacks.
That was it for the single-player portion of my session. It was pretty much what I’ve come to expect from Kingdom Hearts. The gameplay is simple, the characters are charming, and the story is intriguing. Next up was some multiplayer action…which was tarnished by a disastrous partner. Up to four players can participate in cooperative multiplayer games. From what I could see, the wireless games are a combination of monster bashing and puzzle solving. The select menu showed the various members of Organization XIII as playable characters. I choseMarluxia, because scythes are cool. So let’s get to the disaster!
My playing partner ended being this older woman that looked she was at E3 to play casual games. Yes, I shouldn’t make those kinds of assumptions, but I was totally right. We went through two rooms of beating up monsters. I think I killed like 15, while she killed one. Next, we entered a room with a simple puzzle: place four large rocks over four panels. This didn’t seem to register with the old lady, so it was up to me to run across this large room, place the four rocks, and fend off any monsters while she upped her kill total to two. It took a bit longer than I thought it would, but I was finally ready to tackle the fourth rock when the old broad aborted the game. I just glared at her as she said, “Sorry. I’m really bad at this.”
The first lesson I learned was to never play multiplayer Kingdom Hearts with old ladies that can figure out that they have to put a rock on a panel. The second lesson was 358/2 Days will be a fun little game that should deliver everything fans expect from the series. The gameplay is simple (perhaps too much so for some gamers) and the plot is deep (though confusing if you’re not familiar with the world). If you’re looking for a NintendoDS mash-a-thon with soul, then keep your eyes on this game.

Okay, and now the first English Dissidia trailer! YEAH! – Dissidia Homepage — The site now has the rest of the characters, the E3 trailer, more multimedia like PSP images and more. Just check it out, it’s awesome!!!!
During Square Enix’s E3 press conference (aka as Q&A session specifically about Final Fantasy XIV that started an hour late), director Nobuaki Komoto and producer Hiromichi Tanaka were on hand to discuss and reveal a slew of details about Square’s recently revealed and hotly discussed MMORPG FFXIV, scheduled for release next year.
The first comments made were among the most compelling, as the developers admitted that while FFXIV is currently planned to be released only on PS3 and PC, the team is "considering all options at this time, including Microsoft hardware." Not entirely sure what that might mean, but it’s certainly an interesting thing to know.
From there it was all about the FFXIV, so hit the break to see how the Q&A went down.
Q: What are the ties to Final Fantasy XI, if any?
A: While you may have noticed that some of the same types of races appeared in the trailer, the world of FFXIV is different from FFXI [XIV does not take place in Vana'diel]. The reason that we made the races similar to the FFXI races is so FFXI players could choose a similar type of race in the new game. For example, in movies, you might have an actor that plays many different roles. Please, think of it that way.
Q: What happens to FFXI now that we’re moving to FFXIV? Are you going to phase it out or continue to publish new content for XI? How will the development team be split?
A: The development for FFXIV started four or five years ago with primary ideas. Development started a few years ago, while FFXI was still being supported. FFXI will continue to be supported. There is another year of content planned. There are no plans in the near future to stop development on FFXI.
Q: What influence have games like World of WarCraft had on the development of FFXIV?
A: As with WoW, we want to aim a bit for the casual user. However, we don’t want to make a copy of WoW. We believe we will have things that are unique and will stand out from that game.
Q: Will combat be more action-oriented or turn-based?
A: We cannot talk about the battle system at this time.
Q: FFXI has evolved a lot over the years, especially in the areas of player accessibility and the ability to solo. Will you carry over features like level sync and other features to FFXIV?
A: Yes. All of the knowledge and experience we gained from FFXI will be used in the development of FFXIV. At the launch, we intend to have content for solo players as well as large-scale battles. We want a wide variety from the start.
Q: Are you planning a simultaneous worldwide release or will it be released in Japan first?
A: Yes. At the launch, this will be a worldwide simultaneous launch on PS3 and Windows PC. English, Japanese, German, and French versions released at launch.
Q: Will all servers be worldwide or split by territory?
A: The current plans are to have worldwide servers that are cross-platform and cross-region. We will do a beta test and look at the balance and player experience. We want to look for a good balance between region and cross-region play.
Q: Will you be taking feedback from your FFXI users?
A: Yes, we still get a lot of feedback from our FFXI players and will continue to take feedback as we move into beta. The game will change as it goes.
Q: Will you try to move players from XI to XIV or will they be separate communities?
A: It’s up to the community themselves. We envision users that will hopefully play XI one day and XIV another. They will be independent, but users are free to play both.
Q: Are there plans to localize the game in Spanish?
A: Currently, there is no Spanish version in development. We’ll consider it if enough Spanish-speaking users demand it from us. Getting good translators in Japan is hard, but if there’s enough demand we will consider it.
Q: How can users transmit this demand?
A: We will conduct marketing research.
Q: Is there any special element in the MMO genre that you will improve with this game?
A: Our plan from the beginning was to make the best Final Fantasy game available. That is our vision for XIV. Then we thought, how can we make the best FF game? We came to the conclusion that it would be an MMORPG. It was decided to make the best FF first, and that led to the decision to make it an MMORPG and use that genre.
A: However, we are trying to implement a lot of new systems that other MMO’s haven’t used in the past.
Q: Why did you decide to make a new game rather than continue to evolve FFXI?
A: It all comes down to, originally, FFXI was designed for the PS2. It then moved to PC and Xbox 360. A lot of people have asked for a port to the PS3. With an MMORPG of this size, you have to develop new content. Porting to a new technology would take a lot of effort. Instead, we decided to use that time to make something new.
Q: Yesterday’s trailer that was shown, was that running off a console or was it pre-rendered?
A: There were parts that were pre-rendered and parts that were running on the in-game engine.
Q: Is that the quality you’re aiming for? The scene with the Galka fighting, is that what you’re aiming for?
A: Yes, that is the part that was running in-engine.
Q: In that scene, we saw many parties and many enemies. Is this the new focus: many parties fighting many enemies?
A: I cannot say too much, but we hope to have battles that are many vs. many and many vs. one.
Q: What would you like to emphasize with this game? What is different from FFXI?
A: For FFXIV, the keyword that we’ve been using is "The Growth and Development of the Character." We will have the same type of storytelling and high-quality graphics. We also want to expand and create new in-game systems. The player can grow and develop in a more natural way without putting too much weight on the player. We will expand the job system to make it fairly different from the one in FFXI.
A: Another very important concept that takes a different direction from FFXI, is that for FFXIV we want to make it so the player can choose to play solo, in a party, 40 minutes, all-day… there will be content for ALL of those play styles and systems for all of those play styles.
Q: On the beta process, will current XI players get in?
A: As with the actual release date of the game, we don’t have a concrete beta schedule yet. We will have a beta and look forward to more information about it shortly.
Q: Will FFXI characters be portable to XIV in any way?
A: The game is completely different. There will not be any XI character transfers to XIV. However, the character design is familiar and XI players will be able to create a similar character.
A: We will NOT be using PlayOnline, but friend lists will transfer over.
Q: If I’m new to the MMO genre, why would I choose FFXIV over other games?
A: We believe that players will fall in love with the world and story that we have created.
Q: I’ve been seeing information that the title is free to play, is this true?
A: No pricing has been decided at this time. It is still TBD.
Well, there you have it. Exciting stuff about a game none of us expected to be talking about a few days ago, so mission accomplished Square.
So what are your thoughts on the next Final Fantasy MMORPG?

SE, Sqaure Enix, decided to go another, more different approach towards people. Following their great success with Dissidia and Final Fantasy XIII, they have joined their creative minds to make the greatest of greatest card, RPG game ever!
See, in Lord Of Vermillion – LOV -, you can be a female character, or a male character.
-
Female: Rishia
Male: Nido
-
Yeah, that’s right, main characters to a card game! Something that is not Yu-gi-yoh and Pokemon, and Bakugan Battle Brawlers.
In this, you can summon your cards, which right now, I’m guessing that you buy at the SE store and go to one of the locations and place the cards on the screen, than play away with millions of others.
There’s no say if this game will be here, but I’m guessing not, because it’s an arcade game, USA won’t like the Arcade games, not now at least.
Review of the story line:
{{
In ancient times, before the creation of the worlds lived God. He opened his heart and brought forth a Vermillion stone in order to create seven different worlds. Whomsoever held the Vermillion stone held the power to create worlds, and would reign over the seven worlds as a god, the “Lord of Vermilion”. The seven worlds existed side by side in harmony for millennium, their inhabitants separated by boundaries and unable to interfere with one another… until the “Great Collapse”.
The lord of the human world, consumed by ambition, sought to use the forbidden magic of the Vermillion stone, called the “Arcana”, in order to become a god. However, he was unable to wield the power and the Arcana was shattered into seven pieces and scattered amongst the seven worlds, destroying their boundaries. The six worlds were drawn into the human world and they merged together. With the six races of the six worlds thrust into the human world, chaos and war broke out.
Ages later, the world, called the “Land of Acheron”, is still in turmoil. The six “Lords” of the six races sow strife across the land, warring for each other’s Arcana. The player takes the role of a legendary warrior who holds the seventh Arcana and seeks to obtain the Arcana and upset the balance of the world, gathering an army of “Familiars” who hold faith in the legend of the “Lord of the Vermillion”. }}
